Overview

Archive makes footwear and leather goods in Canada, in small runs and with a keen focus on impeccable craftsmanship. A beloved brand in the 2010s and now under new ownership, the team approached us to support the evolution into a new era - preserving the legacy of the business while creating a fresh name and identity that connects to their ethos.

Approach

Founders Graham, Jordan and Jules are tapping into a network of homegrown talent that builds exceptional footwear and leather goods, creating a fully Canadian supply chain and a refusal to cut corners for the sake of profit. With their vision at the forefront, we presented the name, Archive, as a representation of their commitment to purposefully made, obsessively perfected pieces. We followed with an integrated brand strategy and visual identity system that expresses their values and supports a robust brand world across IRL and digital touchpoints.

Two dark red business cards on a black background; the top card shows the embossed word 'Archive' in cursive, and the bottom card displays contact details for Jordan Hesse, founder, with phone number, email, and website, along with the same embossed cursive text reversed.

The Archive World

The identity is drawn from things you can hold. A hand-lettered wordmark with enough weight to survive foil, deboss and embroidery at any size.

The brand’s primary icon is a lynx, serving as a primary symbol for the brand, grounding the identity in both place and attitude. Native to Canada, the lynx offers a subtle but meaningful reference to the brand’s origins without relying on obvious or overused national imagery. It represents resilience, independence, and confidence - traits that align closely with the brand’s values and approach to craft.

The Archive World

The lynx is complemented by a series of badges, enabling a dynamic brand environment to cascade across product, packaging, digital touchpoints and physical experiences. Photography takes a documentary approach, raw and authentic, intentionally imperfect, with an emphasis on the texture and quality of the products.

Brand Strategy

Archive is a brand that cares about the restoration and protection of craftsmanship and quality. Connection over consumption. Intention over impulse. Pieces that earn their place - the antithesis of fast, shiny, or easily forgotten.

The strategy is a rebellion against the disposable, an approach that is carried through Archive’s brand values. Fewer things, loved harder. Built slow, built right. Marks as proof of the journey. We wrote the voice with the same discipline, so it names the leather, the lining, the last and the country, and says what a piece will do and what it will not. The confidence comes from claims the brand can stand behind.

The words 'Leather Goods' and 'Made in Canada' appear at the bottom corners with a stylized 'A' logo centered below the text.

Built to settle in, wear down, and stay with you for the long haul.' Small text on the lower right describes Canadian-made leather goods crafted with care and intention. Logos for Archive and leather goods are visible at the bottom center.

Brand Voice

With an unapologetic commitment to raw transparency and the discipline of crafting heirloom quality products made to last, the brand voice was designed to reflect the authenticity of the business and its founders - utilizing connected, soulful language and a human, heart-forward communication style to build real relationships with both makers and wearers, and an unwavering commitment to integrity, transparency, and honesty.
